It looks like an ENORMOUS percentage of young Irish people are set to vote in the General Election

This would be a remarkable turnout.

A study by Thinkhouse, the youth communication agency, suggests that the General Election of February 26 will have a whopper youth turnout – with 83% of people aged 18-35 expected to make their voices heard.

Of the 500 people surveyed by Thinkhouse, 92% were registered to vote – suggesting that young people in Ireland are more engaged with the election than ever. The turnout for that age bracket was 70% back in 2011 for the last general election.

Young people also believed that certain issues aren’t discussed enough, according to the study. 36% felt environmental issues were put on the backburner, with one in four saying the same about arts and culture.

2016 might be the year that all of that changes if 83% of everyone between the ages of 18-35 really do get out and vote.
