His controversial views on 9/11 are quite well-documented.

Musician Jim Corr has offered his support to Irish journalist Gemma O’Doherty after she recently announced her plans to run for the Irish presidency.

The guitarist for The Corrs has given O’Doherty his full backing via a series of tweets, while also criticising “media hacks” and newspapers.

He said: “Now is the time for you and your colleagues to use your platforms and get behind this wonderful, brave, anti-corruption investigative journalist Gemma O’Doherty and support her rise to The Presidency of Ireland. #GemmaForPresident.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Jim Corr has caused some interest with his personal views.

The musician has previously expressed his belief that Osama Bin Laden had absolutely nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks, believing it to be an inside job.

During an interview with Brendan O’Connor on RTE’s The Saturday Night Show, meanwhile, Corr also implied that swine flu may have been man-made and that climate change is a hoax. He has also stated his opinion that a secret society is trying to establish a one-world government.

With regards to O’Doherty’s campaign, she has previously called for the Irish people to come together to demand change and put an end to what she described as “the corruption that has infested Irish public life and the disgraceful squandering of our taxes and resources”.

In a recent post, she also said “elements in the media are having a meltdown because I would like to serve as the President of Ireland” and that “the mainstream media in Ireland are now as corrupt as the power they are supposed to hold to account”.

After announcing her intention to run for the Irish presidency, she joins former Dragons’ Den star and businessman Gavin Duffy, artist Kevin Sharkey, co-founder of Pieta House Joan Freeman, Eamon Ó’Cuív, a mystery Sinn Féin candidate and President Michael D. Higgins.

Another potential candidate, Sarah-Louise Mulligan, confirmed her interest in running for the role on Wednesday having initially announced her intention to run weeks ago.

UPDATE: Jim Corr responded to this article on Thursday with the following statements on Twitter.
