Great gestures.

Irish stars Seamus Coleman and David Meyler have joined Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in donating money to the GoFundMe page set up to help Sean Cox.

The Liverpool manager made the donation on the official GoFundMe page, set up by friends and family to raise funds to ensure he receives the best possible care and rehabilitation.

Cox, from Dunboyne in Meath, suffered serious injuries in an unprovoked attack outside Anfield stadium in Liverpool ahead of the Champions League semi-final against Roma in April this year.

The attacker; Italian Filippo Lombardi, was found not guilty at Preston Crown Court of inflicting grievous bodily harm. He was sentenced to three years in jail when he admitted to a separate charge of violent disorder.

Klopp made his donation of €5,000 to the fund on Friday afternoon, while Coleman and Meyler added their sums of €5,000 each on Friday night.

Martina Cox, Sean’s wife, appeared on The Late Late Show on Friday night where she said that the family hopes to have Sean home soon.

“Ultimately, our goal is to get Sean home where he belongs with his family.”

“He’s making progress. It’s small steps,” she said.
