We’ve never heard him hum and haw so much…
Leo Varadkar has visited the Orange Order’s Headquarters in Belfast in what is a first for any Irish Taoiseach.
The visit marked a day of different engagements up north which will also include a visit to the oldest GAA club in Down at Mayobridge.

But Varadkar started out his day on BBC Radio Ulster, and managed to get himself somewhat flustered when presented with a quirky question about socks, of all things.
Of course, Varadkar has become known for his flamboyant socks ever since the visit of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Ireland. Varadkar took on Trudeau at his own sock game and comfortably defeated him… a big win for the Taoiseach.

On BBC Radio Ulster, Varadkar was posed the question: “The Orange Order has its own brand of socks – will you be wearing a pair today?”
While it was a light-hearted question, it had the potential to be a banana skin for the Taoiseach who took his sweet time getting the answer out… we suppose you could say he was worried about putting his foot in it (sorry)..
.@bbcgmu grilled the taoiseach @campaignforleo on tricky subjects like an Irish border poll, abortion and the Brexit backstop… but guess which question he just couldn't answer, in case he put his foot in it? 🧦🤐 pic.twitter.com/Sm8IKHdFbP
