Dreadful news.

A man in his 50s has been confirmed dead by An Garda Síochána after a road traffic collision close to the Port Tunnel on Monday morning.

The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash, according to a press spokesperson for An Garda Síochána.

The incident occurred shortly after 10am on 25 February close to the North bore of the tunnel.

The man’s body has been removed from the scene and a post mortem examination will take place at Dublin City Morgue.

The man has not been publicly named.

The road at the scene of the crash has re-opened following an examination of the area by Garda Forensic Collision investigators.

The five-axel truck ban for Dublin City Centre had been temporarily lifted due to the Port Tunnel being closed Southbound following the collision.

The Port Tunnel has also since reopened.
