Man in his 70s seriously injured after being assaulted by burglars in Kildare

A male teenager has been arrested in connection with the aggravated burglary.

A man in his 70s was hospitalised after being assaulted by burglars in Kildare on Tuesday (8 February).

Gardaí in Leixlip are appealing to the public for witnesses following the aggravated burglary that took place at a residential property in Adrass Lower in Celbridge.

At around 9.30pm, a number of men gained entry into a lock-up shed in an attempt to remove property.

The owner of the shed, a 72-year-old man, disturbed the men and was assaulted.

He was later taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where his condition has been described as serious but stable.

A number of suspects fled the scene on foot, while one suspect left on a scrambler bike stolen from the property.

In a follow-up search, a male teenager was arrested and taken to Leixlip Garda station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have information in relation to this incident to come forward.

Any person who may have noticed any unusual activity in the Adrass Lower area on Tuesday night is asked to make contact with investigating Gardaí.

Any road users who were travelling in Adrass Lower between 9pm and 10pm and may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Investigations into the aggravated burglary are ongoing.
