Man arrested after threatening shop worker with blood filled syringe during robbery

Gardaí conducting a Covid-19 checkpoint nearby arrested the man following a short foot chase.

A man in his 30s has been arrested following a robbery at a store in Drogheda.

It’s understood the man entered a store on Dominic Street around 4pm and threatened a female staff member with what appeared to be a blood filled syringe and demanded a sum of money.

When he didn’t get money, he took a gold necklace from the staff member before leaving the scene on foot.

Gardaí operating a Covid-19 checkpoint nearby were alerted to the incident and arrested the man moments later following a short foot chase.

The suspect was taken to Drogheda Garda Station where he currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
