The incident took place on Saturday evening.

A man has died after being attacked by a newly calved cow in Mayo over the weekend.

The man, who was aged in his late seventies, was reportedly checking on the cow on Saturday evening (4 December) when the animal charged at him, resulting in serious injuries.

RTÉ News has named the man as 77-year-old Patrick Geraghty, who lived and farmed on the Erris Peninsula.

Emergency services treated Geraghty at the scene before airlifting him to University Hospital Galway via an Irish Coast Guard helicopter.
