A man in his 40s has died after being hit by a car in Cavan last night.
The pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by the vehicle on the N54 at Plush, Cloverhill, at around 10.45pm on Saturday.
His body has since been removed to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place.
According to the Irish Independent, the male driver of the car, a man aged in his 20s, was uninjured.
The road remains closed on Sunday morning pending a technical examination, and Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 10:30pm and 11:00pm are asked to make this footage available to gardaí,” a spokesperson said.

Elsewhere, in Waterford, a motorcyclist was killed following a single-vehicle collision on the R738 at Knockeen shortly before 6.15pm on Saturday evening.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has since been removed to the mortuary at the University Hospital Waterford, where a post-mortem examination will take place.
