It’s believed the man was ordered to attend the location to be shot.

Police in Antrim are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information on a paramilitary-style shooting which happened on Friday night.

A man in his 30s was shot in the legs in an alleyway next to the train station on Station Road.

The man was taken to hospital with his injuries and remains there today.

“We believe at this time that the shooting was by appointment and that the man had been ordered to attend this location to be shot,” Detective Chief Inspector Mary White said.

“This is totally barbaric and must stop. No-one deserves to have this happen to them and there is absolutely no justification for an attack like this in our communities.

“We must all work together to bring those responsible to justice and to stop this from happening to anyone else.”

Police have appealed for anyone who has information about the attack to contact them.
