A woman who was found dead in her Killarney home yesterday has been named locally as Jamey Carney.
Ms Carney, 43, was originally from Westchester, New York, and had a teenage daughter.
She had been living in Ireland for five years while working for a telehealth and outsourcing company with operations in the US and Ireland.
The alarm was raised around 1.30pm yesterday, July 7, when Carney was found unresponsive at her home on Muckross Road.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to an 'incident' at the property, where Ms Carney was pronounced dead at the scene.
The State Pathologist has been notified and the results of a post-mortem examination will inform the course of the enquiry.
Gardaí have said they believe the woman died as a result of force.
A search has been launched for a man known to Ms Carney, who is believed to have fled the scene.
RTÉ reporter, Marian O'Flaherty, spoke to Radio 1's Morning Ireland show this morning from Kerry, saying the woman has been described as a "loving, dedicated mother".
"Ms Carney has been described as hard-working, she's very well known in the area for her activism and her positive contribution to her community and a person who certainly loved Killarney," she said.
Investigators are appealing for information from anyone who was in the Muckross Road area between the evening of July 6 and the afternoon of July 7, particularly anyone who may have CCTV, dashcam or other camera footage.
An incident room has been established at Killarney Garda station and anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
Investigations are ongoing.
