McDonald’s Ireland to launch its first vegan burger – the McPlant

McDonald’s says it is confident the McPlant will appeal to all burger lovers.

McDonald’s Ireland will next year launch its first-ever vegan burger, the McPlant.

Available in Ireland from January 2022, the fast-food chain has said the new burger will deliver the “same great taste experience” customers expect from a McDonald’s burger, while also enabling them to choose a plant-based menu option.

McDonald’s UK and Ireland spent three years researching and developing the burger, which features a plant-based patty co-developed with a company called Beyond Meat, vegan cheese based on pea protein, a vegan sesame bun and a new vegan sauce.

It also includes mustard, ketchup, onion, pickles, lettuce and tomato, with the Irish version of the burger fully accredited as vegan by the Vegetarian Society.

McDonald’s Ireland has said the McPlant’s patty will be cooked separately from the fast food chain’s meat options using dedicated utensils.

“We’re so pleased to be finally launching the McPlant in the UK and Ireland”, McDonald’s UK and Ireland’s Chief Marketing Officer Michelle Graham-Clare said in a statement.

“As with every McDonald’s offering, we took our time to ensure it meets the highest standards and is something that all our customers will enjoy.

“We are always looking for different ways to innovate and meet our customers’ needs, and with the McPlant we have a delicious plant-based burger that will appeal to everyone. Whether you’re vegan or just fancy a plant-based patty, we’re confident you will enjoy the McPlant.”

The vegan burger will be available in McDonald’s nationwide from January 2022.
