Met Eireann have issued a further snow and ice warning as temperatures look set to plummet

Met Eireann have extended their snow and ice warning until Monday as the parts of the country continue to be hit by heavy falls of snow.

They’ve issued a status yellow snow and ice warning, the lowest of the three warnings, which will run until 6am on Monday morning.

The updated warning was issued after midday on Sunday.

Further showers of hail, sleet and snow today and tonight will give additional accumulations of up to 3 cm of snow, with larger amounts on higher ground, especially in Ulster and Connacht.

They’ve said Sunday will bring “sunny spells and widespread showers with the showers falling as sleet and snow in many areas”.

Temperatures could drop as low as -2 degrees overnight forecasters have warned with hail, sleet and snow expected in many areas.

On Monday, temperatures will will rise throughout the day with highs of four to seven degrees.
