Met Éireann has followed up on yesterday’s weather warning for all of Connacht with a new status yellow rainfall warning for three counties: Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan.
The warning came into effect at midday today (6 August), and will remain in place until 9pm tonight.
People in those counties can expect to experience “heavy thundery downpours this afternoon and evening with a risk of localised flooding,” before the day is out.

According to the UK’s Met Office, there are also several warnings in place across the north of Ireland. Rain and thunder is expected in Belfast, Ballymena, Craigavon, Dungannon, Strabane, Cookstown, Downpatrick, Newtownstewart, Slieve Rushden and Ballymoney.
There is also a small craft warning for Ireland’s coastal waters as of midday today. Southwest winds are expected to reach force 6 today on Irish Coastal Waters from Wicklow Head to Hook Head to Mizen Head.
