Met Éireann update wind warnings for Mayo, Galway and Donegal

The forecast predicts gusts of up to 100km/h.

Met Éireann has issued an updated wind warning for Donegal, Mayo and Galway, with winds expected to reach an average speed of 50-65km/h, with gusts of up to 90-100km/h, on Thursday.

A wind warning had initially been issued for Mayo and Donegal on Wednesday but was updated on Thursday morning (5 December) to include Galway.

This warning will be valid from 8am this morning until 8pm this evening.

Additionally, there have been gale warnings issued for Irish coastal waters, specifically from Loop Head to Malin Head to Carnsore Point and on the Irish Sea.

The high winds are expected to carry on into the weekend, with Met Éireann forecasting the following for Sunday:

“Very windy, possibly stormy in Atlantic coastal areas, with strong to gale force southwesterly winds and with the risk of severe and damaging gusts, especially in the southwest, west and northwest.”
