Met Éireann issue an updated snow and ice warning for the country

That snow and ice will last a bit longer.

Following on from yesterday's (14 December) status yellow warning for snow and ice, Met Éireann have issue an updated weather warning for the country. The updated warning states that: "Scattered wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow with some accumulations, especially on higher ground, and icy stretches on roads and footpaths."

This updated warning is in place from 9am on Sunday, 15 December but it will now last until 10am on Monday, 16 December.

Yesterday's warning was originally only in place until 11:00am on Sunday, 15 December. Essentially, the cold conditions are set to continue this evening and extend into the early parts of Monday morning too. https://twitter.com/MetEireann/status/1206145198448922624 In terms of the general forecast, Sunday morning is set to be cold and frosty with icy patches and lying snow in some areas. Dry and clear in many areas at first today, but showers in the south and west will become more widespread throughout the afternoon with some of the showers turning wintry again. Temperatures are expected to be lower in those areas with lying snow. Further rain or showers in the north and northwest are expected tonight too. However, the rest of the country will be mostly dry. Looking ahead to Monday and further showers will affect the northwest and coastal areas of the west, carrying further east for a time in the afternoon.
