Garda dragged 500 metres by car in Monaghan crash discharged from hospital

The collision took place on Tuesday night.

Gardaí investigating the fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Castleblaney, County Monaghan on Tuesday night have named the deceased as 47-year-old local man Stephen Marron.

Shortly before the crash, a Garda had attempted to stop a silver Audi A6 close to Castleblaney Garda Station.

This car drove off and the Garda was dragged by the car for about 500 metres before it crashed into another car, a Skoda Octavia, on Main Street.

Injured Garda Michael Devlin, 31, has now been discharged from hospital. Garda Devlin is stationed in Monaghan Garda Station.

A 34-year-old male who was arrested at the scene remains in custody at Carrickmacross Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
