Oliver Callan has torn into Michael D. Higgins over Castro comments

Carl Kinsella

Oliver Callan is best known for impersonating others, but the comedian had a quite a lot to say for himself on Twitter today.

The impressionist laid into Ireland’s President Michael D. Higgin’s for a statement in which he said he was saddened to learn of Fidel Castro’s death, describing him as a “giant” among world leaders.

Callan took serious issue with Higgins’ remarks, responding: “President Higgins’ Castro view shows Ireland only vote hard-left figures into ceremonial roles where they can waffle all day with no impact.”

A spokesperson for Higgins has already issued a clarification of the president’s remarks, pointing out that the statement does acknowledge that any advancements Cuba made under Castro did so at the restriction of a civil society.

We’re sure has done an impersonation of Michael D. Higgins in the past but we suspect that the next time he “does” the president, the tone might be a little bit nastier.
