Child attacked in last year’s Parnell Square stabbing reportedly witnessed latest knife incident

A man in his 30s was arrested.

The Mirror report that the man, understood to be Irish, was threatening and abusing people on a bus, while brandishing a knife, one of those being the child involved in last year's attacks.

Councillor Noel Ring told the publication that schoolkids were getting onto a bus when the man in his 30s appeared and started "threatening and banging on the bus with a knife in his hand.

"Unfortunately one of the little kids that was stabbed in the previous incident was on the bus."

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said that no injuries were reported and that the man was arrested for “alleged offences under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act”.

The full statement from the Gardaí reads:

“Following an incident this morning in the Parnell Square area of Dublin City Centre where alleged threatening behaviour was undertaken, a male (30s) has been arrested for alleged offences under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

“The male is currently in custody in a Dublin City Centre Garda Station.

“There are no injuries reported as a result of this incident.

“An Garda Síochána had been conducting regular patrols in this area and these patrols will continue.

“Gardaí are liaising with the local community and anyone impacted by the incident.”

Gardaí also issued a statement on following the incident, saying that they have been made aware of "online misinformation which has become widely circulated".

They appealed to members of the public to "independently verify" anything spreading on social media or messaging apps.
