Photographic proof of hurling at the Olympics

Homenews

This Olympics has been pretty good for Ireland but imagine how good it would be if hurling was an Olympic sport. Adam Nolan has made a start.

Wexford boxer Adam Nolan has some free time on his hands in the Olympic Village. Since the Bray-based Garda was eliminated from the Welter weight division in the last 16 he could have followed Usain Bolt and hung out with female Swedish handball players but no, Nolan had another way to fill his time.

The man from Ballagh was not a bad hurler in his day and he was offered a slot on the very good Oulart-The Ballagh senior team in 2009, then managed by current Wexford senior hurling boss Liam Dunne.

Nolan decided to stick with boxing but we imagine he would be a senior inter-county hurler by now if he had stayed with the sliotar.

Anyway, Nolan tweeted the above picture this morning, of himself having a puck around in the Olympic Village. Hopefully the blazers will see it and get one of the world’s greatest sports into the world’s biggest sporting event.
