Waka, waka, waka. Here we go!

Waka, waka, waka. Here we go!

We think that one of the downsides to living in this digital age of ours is that we don’t receive as many letters as we did all those years ago.

We’re still waiting from a reply from our French pen-pal that we had in ’97 but we don’t think it’s going to arrive.

Hearing a ping in your email box doesn’t quite have the same buzz of seeing your local postman being chased by the neighbourhood dogs and we really love these new stamps also.

An Post have just released these class stamps featuring some of our favourite retro-game characters.

Pac-Man, Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog and Space Invaders will all feature on those things you lick as a tribute marking the iconic status of the games and their transition from novelty to global industry.

It’s amazing to think that Mario has appeared in more than 100 video games to date with more than 307 million units sold worldwide while the Sonic games have made more than €5 billion in sales.

The stamps were designed by the Dublin-based graphic design studio Zinc Design Consultants and will cost 68c each, or €2.72 for all four.

Here’s hoping that these stamps are used by our bank when they send us out our monthly bills, it might just soften the blow.
