Pic: Hilariously bad penalty box drawn on a pitch in Cork

We’re guessing whoever marked out this pitch for Millstreet Celtic may need a bit more practice.

We’re guessing whoever marked out this pitch for Millstreet Celtic may need a bit more practice.

Anyone who has played amateur sport in Ireland will be familiar with less than exact pitch markings. Standards have improved but the odd slightly lopsided touchline or uneven 45-yard line still pops up now and then.

But this effort, sent to us by Eric Ó Hicí, from a recent game in the Cork AUL 1A at Millstreet Celtic is very special indeed. How any referee could adjudge an incident being inside or outside this line we don’t know.

Eric also informs us that the box starts out at 18 yards from the touchline at one side but by the time it gets to the other side, it is only 16 yards from the goal. More a penalty trapezoid than a penalty box then.

Pitch marking

If you have seen any pitch markings, in any sport, better (we mean worse) than this, do send them our way.
