Irish actor Pierce Brosnan is due to appear in US court after he allegedly trespassed into a dangerous area off-trail in Yellowstone National Park.

The former Bond star was charged with “breaking the rules” of the protected area and entering a thermal area during a trip to the park last November.

The 70-year-old is due to appear in court next month and could face jail, a fine and/or a band from the national park.

The Navan man was, according to court documents, hiking in the area and went off-trail to the Mammoth Terraces, one of the many thermal features of the scenic national park – the oldest in the US.

Going out of bounds in the park is a serious issue, as there is a history of people dying or severely injuring themselves doing so before.

Over 20 people are reported to have died after falling into the park’s springs.

According to the park’s website: “Boardwalks and trails protect you and delicate thermal formations. Water in hot springs can cause severe or fatal burns, and scalding water underlies most of the thin, breakable crust around hot springs.”

Brosnan is allegedly charged with ‘foot travel in a thermal area’ and a ‘closure violation’ after his alleged entry into a restricted area of the park in November.

It is believed the actor was in the area while filming Unholy Trinity, an upcoming Western also starring Samuel L. Jackson.

The Mamma Mia star has been ordered to appear in court in Wyoming on Tuesday, January 23.
