POLL: Do you think the rules banning smoking in Irish pubs should be changed?

Junior Health Minister Finian McGrath’s comments on bringing back designated smoking areas in pubs have the country talking.

Ireland became the first country in the EU to ban smoking in all workplaces in 2004, a measure that has worked well despite some early teething problems.

Junior Health Minister Finian McGrath caused controversy when he told the Sunday Business Post that designated smoking areas in pubs could work, as he had seen in other countries such as Portugal and Italy.

McGrath did say that those were his “personal, private views” and he would not be raising them in a political forum, but it’s worth asking the question…
