PSNI respond to “attempted hijacking” of a bus in Derry

Police in Northern Ireland are now dealing with their fourth major security incident of the day.

In a statement posted to the official Facebook page for PSNI Foyle, the branch wrote: "We appreciate there is a lot happening in the city tonight folks. It’s important we have the right information out there. "We can confirm there has been an attempted hijacking of a local bus service in the area of Moss Road. We are responding to these incidents with public safety remaining our top priority." There is no comment made on whether or not anyone has been arrested. The incident marks the fourth major security issue to hit Derry within 12 hours on Monday, 21 January. Elsewhere, homes were evacuated over fears of a suspicious device on the Circular Road, a van was hijacked by masked men (one of whom may have had a gun) at Southway and another van was abandoned on the Northland Road. A car bomb also went off outside a Derry courtroom on Saturday evening. Nobody was injured.
