Who says there’s no money in sheep?

Last weekend, at a sale in Lanark, a Scottish Blackface Lanark type ram lamb sold for £160,000

Added to this, there were no less than 17 other five figure transactions for sheep on the day.

It was the very end of the lamb sale that provided the £160,000 lamb from Willie Dunlop and sons Quintin and William’s 1900-ewe flock from Elmscleugh, Innerwick, Dunbar.

The sale equaled Ian Hunter’s £160,000 record priced Dalchirla ram lamb sold at Dalmally in 2015.

The family must be doing something right because it’s the second time they’ve sold a lamb for six figures.

The bidding started at £5,000 and when the ram lamb reached £140,000 the auctioneer broke out the age old phrase; a “good one’s never dear”. The ram lamb finally sold for £160,000.
