Republican leaders go against Trump by pulling vote to keep Obamacare intact

Rory Cashin

In a massive blow to President Trump, the Republican leaders in the House Of Representatives have pulled the vote against overhauling the US healthcare system.

Despite it being one of the biggest campaign promises made by Trump leading up to his election, and it being promised by Republicans in general that it would be removed ever since it was implemented in 2010, the Affordable Care Act – known by most as Obamacare – will now remain in place.

Despite intense lobbying leading up to the vote for the overhaul, the Republican leaders decided to pull the vote altogether due to a massive shortage of votes on the overhaul, with the minimum of 215 votes needed in order for it to pass.

Democrat and House minority leader Nancy Pelosi described it as “a victory for the American people”.

It is unclear if Trump will re-attempt the vote at a late date, but according to the BBC, he blames the Democrats for not supporting his newly edited “Trumpcare” bill, and that the Republicans would instead try to focus their efforts on tax reform.

Trump has yet to tweet about the matter.
