Severed hand found at Dublin school believed to belong to boy injured in explosion

Gardaí told JOE that the remains will be removed for examination and DNA analysis.

In a statement to JOE on Friday (21 February), Gardaí said they were alerted to the discovery of "partial human remains" at a premises in Darndale that afternoon.

Multiple outlets reported on Friday that the remains were a hand and that it was discovered in a school yard in the area.

Now, several news publications are stating that An Garda Síochána believe that the human limb belonged to a 12-year-old who lost his hand in a gas canister explosion on Thursday night at a bonfire in Darndale.

It is said that the young boy is being treated for his injuries in hospital.

Multiple outlets have also reported that Gardaí believe a bird may have dropped the hand from the sky onto the school grounds.

No children were present at the school for the grim discovery due to the mid-term break.
