Supermac’s, Tesco, Lidl, Dunnes Stores, IKEA, Penneys and Marks and Spencer are amongst the many businesses to announce closures in Irish stores today due to weather warnings from storm Ophelia.

A statement from Supermac’s founder Pat McDonagh read: ‘In the interests of the safety of our staff and customers in view of the severe weather warnings we have taken the decision to close all our Supermac’s restaurants today, Monday 16th October. Restaurants will re-open as normal on Tuesday 17th October.’

Meanwhile, a number of other businesses closed their doors.

With numerous Irish Rail services, multiple flights in and out of Irish airports and all Dublin Bus services cancelled, multiple businesses throughout the country have also decided to shut up shop.

Tesco Ireland has announced that stores in Cork, Limerick, Kerry, Clare and South Tipperary have closed and that while all other stores have remained open for the time being, they will be subject to closure later in the day subject to weather conditions.

Other businesses to announce closures throughout the country today include Peter Mark, Petmania, Camile Thai (some outlets may open this evening, weather permitting), the Light House Cinema in Dublin, some SuperValu outlets and all FlyeFIT gyms.
