Study reveals how Irish people feel about their quality of life

Rather fittingly, it seems that we're all grand

Paul Moore

Rather fittingly, it seems that we’re all grand.

By our nature, Irish people are a fairly pragmatic bunch because we always seem content with our lot but that’s not to say that we don’t aspire for more from our country.

You could probably define Irish people as positive, friendly and genuinely decent and this recent survey by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has confirmed that assumption.

We’re not the happiest nation but we’re far from the worst.

With a rating of 7.0 our of 10, Ireland ranks joint fifth alongside Brazil and Germany in the list of the O.E.C.D’s 34 member states in relation to their quality of life.

If you happen to know any Danish, Icelandic or Swiss people that are constantly smiling then now you’ll know why, these countries have the happiest citizens with a rating of 7.5 out of 10.

What’s interesting though is that Ireland ranks at the very top of the list in terms of social connections. What does this mean?

Well, I’m happy to say that 96% of Irish people believe that they know someone that they could rely on in time of need. Basically, our ties with the people in our communities, neighborhoods and parishes are extremely strong.

The survey also revealed some other interesting tidbits about how Irish people feel about our society. Take a look at the graphs below.
