Temperatures set to plunge to below zero once again this weekend

Weather foreceast

It’s set to be another freezing weekend.

A funny thing about Irish people is that we always seem to forget that January and February is when our real winter hits.

We have a semi-warm Christmas and we think we’re out of the woods. But no. Not so fast.

Met Éireann has confirmed that we can expect the cold weather to continue this weekend, and possibly even get a little worse.

Thursday and Friday aren’t expected to be too bad with minimum temperatures of between 2 and 3 degrees.

But it’s the weekend when we’re properly going to be stung, which is fairly typical. Saturday night will see the temperature hit zero, but Sunday will be the worst.

Met Éireann is forecasting temperatures as low as -3: “It is expected to be cold and bright on Sunday with sunny spells and scattered wintry showers, most frequent in the north and west. Highs of just 4 to 7 degrees. That brisk north to northwest breeze will persist. The winds are expected to ease overnight with frost developing fairly widely. Minimum temperatures of -3 to 0 degrees.”

Current indications also suggest that next week is going to continue in the same vein — with “frosty nights” and “wintry showers” on the horizon.
