The Irish Daily Mail claims a significant number of Irish people want to join UK and leave the EU

That's an odd way to frame it...

In the run up to the Brexit vote in the UK, a number of publications took an editorial stance, with the Daily Mail backing the Leave campaign to the extent that they plastered it all over their front page. https://twitter.com/DailyMailUK/status/745369016928243712 The Mail’s editor-in-chief, Paul Dacre, made the stance of the paper well known as they focused on anti-immigration stories, although the Mail on Sunday did come out in favour of continued membership of the EU. The front page of today's Irish Daily Mail has not held back in its portrayal of Ireland in the EU and claims that 40% of Irish people think that Ireland should choose the UK over the EU. According to the paper, "four in ten Irish people would choose open borders and free trade with the UK over the EU." So basically, 60% would prefer if Ireland stick it out with the EU rather than abandoning the Single Market, the Common Travel Area, the Common Agricultural Policy and all the other benefits to join ranks with the UK.
