Some 1,450 positions will be on offer.

The Defence Forces in Ireland are aiming to hire nearly 1,500 new personnel over the next two years.

The planned first step is to acquire 600 fresh recruits in 2016, with a further 850 added in 2017; both in the Permanent Defence Forces, with female recruits especially encouraged to apply as women currently make up just 6% of the Defence Force population.

After watching the video below, we imagine a lot of people will be interested.

Speaking with JOE about the recruitment drive, Captain John Forde of the Defence Forces explained:

“The new recruitment campaign is designed to attract enthusiastic and committed men and women from all backgrounds and ethnicities to a career in the Defence Forces.

“We offer remarkable career opportunities and upon passing out soldiers and sailors can apply for a variety of diverse and challenging courses such as: training to become Snipers, Armour Vehicle Drivers, IT Specialists or Divers.

“The development of these skills and many others prepare our personnel to perform when under pressure in a variety of operational scenarios; scenarios such as rescuing people in the Mediteranean, operating as a Peacekeeper on behalf of Ireland in some of the world’s most volatile regions or boarding a suspicious vessel operating in Irish waters in the dead of night.”
