Farewell to a Dublin institution.

The Living Room, one of the most famous bars in Dublin city centre, has announced that it will close on Monday, 6 January.

Located just off O'Connell Street on Cathal Brugha Street, the pub was renowned for its beer garden - where patrons often gathered to watch major sporting events on a large screen.

In a social media statement, the team behind the sports bar said that, though The Living Room is closing, "this is not the end of the story".

"There is exciting news to come, and we can’t wait to share it with you soon," the team added.

The announcement comes just weeks after one of Ireland's best cinemas - the Pálás in Galway - revealed it will close its doors at the end of February this year.
