The group sang a rendition of Take It Down From The Mast.
A counter-protest to an anti-immigration rally held in Dundalk on Monday was supported by The Mary Wallopers who turned up and sang.
As reported by The Journal, an anti-immigration rally had been organised by a group called ‘Dundalk says no’ to protest against the planned accommodation of around 260 Ukrainian refugees in a former orphanage at Seatown.
The Mary Wallopers, who joined a counter-protest, were joined by several others as they sang a version of ‘Take It Down From The Mast’.
One member of the band, Charles Hendy, also held up a banner that read: “We earned our nickname ‘El Paso’ due to people fleeing British terror in the North. Let’s not allow a British fascist led movement tell us to fight refugee instead of the rich.”
In a statement on their Instagram story the group confirmed that they didn’t organise the counter protest themselves and that “everyone who did and who showed up deserves respect”.
Three people were arrested for public order offences.
