Third Irish homeless person dies this week

Carl Kinsella

In another sickening reminder of the homelessness crisis facing Ireland at the moment, a third homeless person has died in just a matter of days.

The Irish Independent has reported that a woman in her 30s has died while sleeping in a tent near Gilabbey, just outside of Cork City. It has also been reported that the woman became a client of the Simon Community after she was evicted from her home earlier in 2017.

The tragic news comes just days after it was a revealed that a homeless mother in her 20s died in a hotel in Kildare. On the same day, a man in his 50s died while sleeping rough on Suffolk Street.

Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy will reportedly convene an emergency council on the matter this week, but has not tweeted anything about the deaths.
