The Dalai Lama showed remarkable wisdom when asked if we should pray following terror attacks

People are struggling to come to terms with the horror of what happened last night in Nice.

Tributes have poured in on social media while prayers have been said around the world for the victims of the Bastille Day tragedy.

#PrayForNice has been trending on Twitter in the aftermath of the horrible events last night as people use it to show solidarity with France.

But, Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama said in an interview following the Bataclan attacks in November that we shouldn’t look to God to solve our man-made problems.

He believes that the problems are our own making and even though he’s a buddhist who believes in prayer, he said we must work together to end these problems rather than praying to.

Speaking with the German state broadcaster Deutsche Welle, he said: “People want to lead a peaceful lives. The terrorists are short-sighted, and this is one of the causes of rampant suicide bombings. We cannot solve this problem only through prayers.

“I am a Buddhist and I believe in praying. But humans have created this problem, and now we are asking God to solve it. It is illogical. God would say, solve it yourself because you created it in the first place.

“We need a systematic approach to foster humanistic values, of oneness and harmony. If we start doing it now, there is hope that this century will be different from the previous one. It is in everybody’s interest. So let us work for peace within our families and society, and not expect help from God, Buddha or the governments.”
