CNN’s Anderson Cooper likens Donald Trump to “obese turtle on his back” after bizarre speech

Trump is going down swinging.

Donald Trump was was likened to “an obese turtle on his back, flailing in the hot sun” by Anderson Cooper of CNN after an impromptu news conference in which he made numerous baseless claims on Thursday evening.

The president (for now) announced the news conference would be held just 15 or so minutes before he started speaking, and on several occasions he made claims of illegality in the vote counting process with no evidence to back up such claims.

CNN issued a warning before his speech that it would likely be full of lies and they were not wrong. As Trump rambled on about voter fraud, more than one TV channel cut him off, returning to the studio to explain that a large portion of what he was saying was based on no evidence whatsoever.

In very “this is Manchester United we’re talking about” fashion, CNN’s Anderson Cooper encapsulated the mood of the world with a snappy line that sent Twitter into hysterics.

“That is the President of the United States. That is the most powerful person in the world and we see him, like an obese turtle on his back, flailing in the hot sun, realising his time is over,” Cooper said.

“But he just hasn’t accepted it, and he wants to take everybody down with him, including this country,” he added.

Thursday saw very slow progress in the race to 270 electoral votes in the US election, but the odds are now heavily stacked in Joe Biden’s favour.

Hurry up, Nevada.
