Authorities have issued a tsunami warning.
A powerful earthquake has struck near Christchurch, New Zealand as the authorities have issued a tsunami warning, urging people in the area to “move to high ground.”
The US Geological Survey said the magnitude-7.4 quake hit 59 miles (95km) from Christchurch.
Christchurch is the biggest city on New Zealand’s South Island and it’s still recovering from the 2011 earthquake which killed 185 people and caused widespread damage to the city.
The New Zealand Ministry of Civil Defence have posted this statement with advice on what action to take.
