Okay, so this is gets a little complicated…
During Obama’s tenure he appointed 93 new U.S. Attorney’s, but up until earlier this week, only 46 of them remained in their positions for various reasons.
Then on Friday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that under the Trump administration, all 46 of those remaining would be required to hand up their letters of resignation.
While this isn’t exactly unheard of when the new Commander-In-Chief comes in and cleans up house of anything left behind by the former resident, the remaining Attorney’s were surprised to hear about the mass resignations via the media before being told in person.
And one Attorney in particular, Preet Bharara of the Southern District of New York, has told CNN that he wouldn’t be resigning at all.
Bharara told them that he had a one-on-one meeting with Trump in November about job security, and was assured by the President that his job was safe.
And then this happened.
I did not resign. Moments ago I was fired. Being the US Attorney in SDNY will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter has reacted.
Thank you for your excellent work and public service, @PreetBharara. This is shameful and we won’t let it get swept under the rug.

@PreetBharara, thank you for your service. This action by @POTUS proves that @realDonaldTrump is not a man of his word.
