The British pub chain Wetherspoons is poised to swoop for four of Dublin’s most popular nightspots.

The George, Dragon, Café en Seine and Howl at the Moon are all part of the Capital Bars Group, which entered a mixed examinership and receivership in 2009.

All four pubs are available for a combined price of £12m or can also be sold separately as Wetherspoons look to make their first foray into the Irish market.

The Sunday Independent reports that the massive UK chain – which holds around 900 franchises across the water – will open its first boozer in Blackrock next month.

The plan is for Wetherspoons to open 30 pubs in the Republic of Ireland in the next few years as the trade continues to improve.

While more than 1,300 pubs have shut their doors in the last ten years in Ireland, there has been an improvement in the last year, with last summer’s good weather prompting many people to go on holiday at home.

Cheap drink in supermarkets is also being targeted, with Wetherspoons chairman Tim Martin revealing that the chain is looking at locations all over the country.
