WATCH: Donald Trump seems to make up a terrorist attack in Sweden

Carl Kinsella

This will go down as another one of the Trump administration’s “alternative facts.”

On Saturday evening, Donald Trump was out of the White House and back to doing what he loves — giving energised speeches to huge crowds.

The first month of his presidency has been fraught with criticism, not least for his administration’s officials pliable relationship with the truth. One example of this flexibility was his surrogate Kellyanne Conway’s reference to a “Bowling Green massacre” that never took place in Bowling Green (or anywhere in the United States).

Last night, Trump seemed to try a similar tactic when speaking to a crowd in Florida. While speaking, Trump flippantly seemed to the activities of radical Islamic terrorists “last night in Sweden,” but… not much of note happened in Sweden on Friday night.

“We have to keep our country safe. You look at what’s happening in Germany, you look at what’s happening last night in Sweden. Sweden! Who would would believe this? Sweden. They took in large numbers, now they’re having problems they never thought possible.”

Turns out the @sweden Twitter account was as confused as anybody to hear the news.
