Gary Johnson isn’t doing himself any favours.
The Libertarian candidate for the US Presidency came in for plenty of criticism earlier this month when he said “And what is Aleppo?” in response to a question about the city in Syria that has been ravaged the horrors of war.
Last night, Johnson appeared on MSNBC alongside his running mate Bill Weld when he was asked by host Chris Matthews to name his favourite foreign leader.
Unable to provide an answer, Johnson initially said “anybody” and when pressed by Matthews to be more specific, he said he was having “an Aleppo moment” before uttering “the former President of Mexico”, whose name he couldn’t remember.

Weld intervened to provide him with the name Vicente Fox, but at that stage the damage had done and Piers Morgan was amongst the many to deride Johnson on social media afterwards.
Congratulations @GovGaryJohnson – you are now officially more stupid than Sarah Palin. https://t.co/qji2iwi3ov
