Warm weather to stretch into next week in your classic ‘mixed bag’ scenario

Dave Hanratty

Weather forecast weekend

Highs of 22 degrees, you say? Rain, you say?

It’s all been getting a bit ‘start of the video for ‘Smooth’ by Santana featuring Rob Thomas’ in the past few days.

If you’re a fan of such conditions; rejoice! The warm weather is here to stay for a little bit.

Met Éireann’s latest forecast as of Friday (5 July) details a bit of a ‘good news, bad news’ situation for the days ahead with a mixture of sunny spells and outbursts of rain and thunder along the way.

Plenty of humidity, too, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 22 degrees.

Met Éireann says it will be largely dry in Leinster and Munster on Friday with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, while things will be quite cloudy in Connacht and Ulster with a few patches of rain and little drizzle, particularly in coastal areas and on hills.

Top temperatures overall of between 17 and 22 degrees, which will fall to between 10 and 13 degrees by nighttime. Mist and fog are also anticipated in some areas.

Saturday will kick off with clouds, rain, drizzle and mist. Get in!

Things will gradually get drier and sunnier in Ulster, with those more agreeable conditions venturing southwards to Connacht and north Leinster by the afternoon. Get in?

By nightfall, things should be mild if mostly cloudy across the southern half of Ireland with yet more patches of rain, drizzle and mist. Minimum temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.

Sunday, meanwhile, will see mostly cloudy conditions “prevail” across the south and the west, which doesn’t sound enjoyable, nor does the signposting of yet more spots of light rain and drizzle.

That said, it should be brighter and mainly dry elsewhere with the best of any sunshine expected across Ulster and north Leinster.

Top temperatures of between 16 and 21 degrees, so we’re clinging to that, at least. Lows of 7 to 12, which will do.

Coming into next week and the 50/50 split continues. Monday will see early bright or sunny spells that will soon give way to increasing cloud, outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

Still, it’ll be humid enough with 16 to 22 degrees in light southwest or variable breezes.

Tuesday is more of the same, really, with that potent blend of clouds, scattered rain and general humid conditions in the high teens and low 20s.

Wednesday and beyond follows much the same pattern. It’ll do?
