A status yellow warning is in effect.

It’s not getting any warmer out there as Met Éireann has officially extended its snow-ice weather warning nationwide until Sunday afternoon.

Updated on Saturday morning – 2 February – the status yellow warning is valid until midday on Sunday 3 February.

Conditions will remain very cold with severe frost and ice expected in midland and eastern areas on untreated surfaces on Saturday morning and during the night.

Some snow showers are expected, mostly confined to northern and northwestern areas, while snow is anticipated mainly on higher ground in the north and northeast on Saturday night.

Additionally, a status yellow marine warning is in effect as of Saturday morning, particularly of note to those operating small crafts.

Northerly winds will reach force 6 for a time on Irish coasts from Malin Head to Howth Head to Roches Point during the morning, while south to southwest winds will increase overnight to force 6 or force 7 on Irish coasts from Roches Point to Erris Head to Malin Head.

Elsewhere, AA Roadwatch has urged motorists to take extreme caution while driving in icy conditions.
