It’s set to be called The Silver Penny.

Pub operator JD Wetherspoon is to open its new pub in Dublin city centre on Friday, 21 June, with the creation of 70 new jobs.

The pub, located on the site of an old bank and chapel on lower Abbey Street, will be the first Wetherspoons to open in the city centre.

It’s set to be called The Silver Penny, and will join six other Wetherspoons pubs in the Republic of Ireland.

The new-look pub features two bars, with the main bar at ground floor level, serving a two-storey space surrounded by a first-floor gallery, while a second bar is situated in an ornate former banqueting room upstairs.

The Silver Penny will be open from 8am until 11.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8am until 12.30am on Friday and Saturday and 8am until 11pm on Sunday.

Food will be served at the premises each day from opening until 11pm and the pub will also offer family dining, with children, accompanied by an adult, welcome until 9pm.

Manager Filip Mordak said: “Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and we are confident that it will be a great addition to the Dublin city centre community.”
