The whole of Ireland will tune into the Six One News this evening to witness the end of an era

He'll be missed.

Alan Loughnane

Thank you Dobbo…

It’s been brewing for a while but the day is finally here. Brian Dobson will read the headlines on his last Six One News on Wednesday evening before moving over to his new role with Morning Ireland.

He will join co-presenters Rachael English, Dr Gavin Jennings and Audrey Carville as a main anchor of the RTÉ Radio 1 programme from next week.

Dobson has co-anchored the Six One News since 1996 and his voice and face have become synonymous with bringing the public some of the biggest stories of the last two decades.

Speaking on the move, Dobson previously said: “Over many years presenting Six One News it has been a privilege to work alongside so many talented and committed colleagues to deliver accurate, relevant and engaging news to our large audience.”

It’s expected that Dobbo’s replacement will be announced in the coming weeks.

Recently, he also broke his silence on the pay disparity between himself and co-anchor Sharon Sharon Ní Bheoláin which emerged in recent months.

“I don’t decide what I get paid. First, I didn’t know what Sharon earned until it was published,” he told the RTE Guide.

“And I certainly don’t see any justification for the disparity between what we earn.”
