“They just don’t want us on and that’s it.”
Wolfe Tones singer Brian Warfield has said that RTÉ have a ‘systematic ban’ on the legendary rebel band.
The 78-year-old told The Mirror that as the band approaches their retirement, they aren’t expecting an invite onto the Late Late Show any time soon.
“I don’t think we will be asked at all,” he told the publication.
“I think there is a systemic ban on The Wolfe Tones within the RTÉ organisation.
“It’s not the first time the controversy has come up about getting The Wolfe Tones on the Late Late Show – they just don’t want us on and that’s it.”

Warfield went on to recall RTÉ telling the band they couldn’t play ‘A Nation Once Again’, despite the fact Frank Patterson had sung it on The Late Late Show a few weeks before.
“We said why can’t the Wolfe Tones sing it and RTÉ said ‘because when the Wolfe Tones sing it, they mean it.'”
Despite maintaining the stance that they won’t be asked on, Warfield admitted that the band ‘probably would’ accept an invite on the Late Late if asked.
Warfield also mentioned the last time the band were on the the talk show they were ‘insulted’ after having their interview cut off and their performance cut down to just one song.
“Remember a lot of fans were annoyed that they could [not] say hello to the Wolfe Tones or talk about our career”.
Warfield said last week threw the Wolf Tones’ name into the hat for a supporting slot for Oasis, saying it would “put the icing on the cake” for the band, who plan to retire soon.
“We’ve already created an interest that we would love to do it. I guess it’s up to them and their management,” he added.
