Young woman dies after night-time road crash in Waterford

The death brings the number of fatalities on Irish roads this year so far to 29.

A young woman has died after a road crash in Waterford on Monday night (19 February).

The single car collision occurred at around 10:15pm on the R685 at Quillia in Tramore.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a woman in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has since been taken from the scene to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford.

A post-mortem examination will be arranged.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R685 at Quillia between 10pm and 10:20pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí,” a spokesperson said.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tramore Garda Station on 051 391620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”

According to Garda statistics, the young woman’s death is the 29th fatality on Irish roads since the start of the year.

This is just one less than last year during the same period when 30 people died in traffic incidents.

Just last week, a 15-year-old girl was killed in a car crash in Tipperary.
