A separate road crash in Sligo on Easter Monday left two children seriously injured.
A young boy has died after a road crash in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath on Easter Monday.
Shortly after 6:30pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision in Farranshock Estate, after the child was struck by a car.
He was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
An investigation has been launched following the crash, with Gardaí appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
“Road users or pedestrians who were in the area at the time and have camera footage (including dash-cam recordings) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí,” a spokesperson said.
“Anyone with information is urged to contact Mullingar Garda Station at 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
Another road crash occurred in Sligo on Easter Monday, which involved two cars.
The occupants of one vehicle – two women, a nine-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl – were transported by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries.
The sole occupant of the second car was taken to the hospital for assessment.
